St Clement Danes Church

This church is recognised as the central church of the Royal Air Force, which was completed in 1682 by Sir Christopher Wren butwas gutted by the Luftwaffe bombing raids during the Blitz and not restored until 1958.

Memorial Statues

Outside the church, there are two statues.

Arthur "Bomber" Harris

At the time, this memorial statute was deemed controversial due to his responsibility for the boming of Dresden and other bombing campaigns against German cities during World War II, including Dresden and Hamburg as well as some in Britain. It was unveiled by the Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother in 1992.

Air Chief Marshal Hugh Dowding

He was the Air Officer commanding RAF Fighter Command during the Battle of Britain and is credited with the defence and defeat of Operation Sea Lion, otherwise known as Adolf Hitler's plan to invade Britain.
